In short: The 4 strains, NCFM, Lpc-37, Bi-07 and Bl-04, are the blend called HOWARU Restore. It was studied in a trial with 503 adult inpatients on antibiotics: fewer got diarrhoea with the blend than with placebo, and fewest with the higher dose. One capsule gives 10 billion CFU, between the trial's two doses. The Longo Vital product itself has not been studied.

Key finding: Randomised trial in China with 503 adult inpatients on antibiotics. They took the blend at 17 billion CFU, 4.17 billion CFU or placebo daily, until 7 days after the last antibiotic dose. Diarrhoea: 12.5%, 19.6% and 24.6%. Several of the authors worked for the maker of the strains.
